چکیده

We extract values for the free symmetry energy as a function of the fragment size (the proton number Z) from antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD) calculations of calcium collisions. Simple statistical physics describe well the distribution of hot nuclei at breakup, provided the surface symmetry term in the free energy is much smaller at high excitation than in ground state nuclei. This result may reflect the condition of low density and finite temperature when these systems disassemble. PACS numbers: 25.70.Pq

Fluctuations and symmetry energy in nuclear fragmentation dynamics.

Within a dynamical description of nuclear fragmentation, based on the liquid-gas phase transition scenario, we explore the relation between neutron-proton density fluctuations and nuclear symmetry energy. We show that, along the fragmentation path, isovector fluctuations follow the evolution of the local density and approach an equilibrium value connected to the local symmetry energy. Higher-de...

Contemporary presence of dynamical and statistical production of intermediate mass fragments in midperipheral 58 Ni + 58 Ni collisions at 30 MeV / nucleon

The 58 N i + 58 N i reaction at 30 MeV/nucleon has been experimentally investigated at the Superconducting Cyclotron of the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud. In midperipheral collisions the production of massive fragments (4≤Z≤12), consistent with the statistical fragmentation of the projectile-like residue and the contemporary dynamical formation of a neck, joining projectile-like and target-...

Novel Qcd Effects in Nuclear Collisions*

Heavy ion collisions can provide a novel environment for testing fundamental dynamical processes in QCD, including minijet formation and interactions, formation zone phenomena, color filtering, coherent co-mover interactions, and new higher twist mechanisms which could account for the observed excess production and anomalous nuclear target dependence of heavy flavor production. The possibility ...

Systematic study of isoscaling behavior in projectile fragmentation by the statistical abrasion-ablation model

The isospin effect and isoscaling behavior in projectile fragmentation have been systematically investigated by a modified statistical abrasion-ablation (SAA) model. The normalized peak differences and reduced isoscaling parameters are found to decrease with (Zproj −Z)/Zproj or the excitation energy per nucleon and have no significant dependence on the size of reaction systems. Assuming a Fermi...

Effects of Jet Quenching on High pT Hadron Spectra in High-energy Nuclear Collisions

Assuming an effective energy loss dE/dx for the high ET partons which are produced via hard processes of parton scattering and subsequently propagate through a dense medium, effective jet fragmentation functions are constructed in which leading hadrons will be suppressed. Using such effective fragmentation functions, high pT hadron spectra and particle suppression factors relative to pp collisi...
